MSB & MDB Switchboard Upgrades in Thailand

A switchboard upgrade affects every connected system, so the plan matters as much as the equipment. ETES replaces, recovers and recommissions main, emergency and associated distribution boards, with the supply interruption discussed before work begins.

Scope of work.

Replacement, recovery and recommissioning

Replace, recover and recommission main switchboards (MSB), emergency main switchboards (EMSB), ACMSB and sub-boards. Confirm equipment condition and the scope of each change.

Coordinated drawings and programme

Prepare reflected ceiling plans and combined M&E services drawings in AutoCAD. Use Microsoft Project for the master programme and detailed schedules for individual services.

Power interruption planning

Prepare a power interruption plan (PIP) and discuss every planned shutdown with the client. Agree affected loads, work sequence and return-to-service arrangements.

Temporary generation

Arrange temporary generator sets from 10 kVA to 1.5 MVA for shutdown work, with capacity and connection arrangements selected for the agreed loads and site conditions.

Protection relays and annual servicing

Provide protection discrimination design, relay settings and yearly servicing for supply and distribution switchboard panels.

Information to prepare.

Share what you have. We can identify the remaining information together.

  • Board photographs, nameplate details and the latest single-line diagram.
  • The reason for upgrading, known faults and any proposed additional loads.
  • The circuits that must remain supported and available shutdown windows.

Agree the details before work begins.

Use these points to define the proposal, responsibilities and records your team needs. Final deliverables depend on the agreed scope.

  1. Before work

Existing board assessment, replacement specifications and protection requirements.

  2. During delivery

An agreed shutdown sequence, temporary supply needs and the plan to restore service.

  3. At handover

Installation checks, test records and updated circuit and equipment identification.

Good questions.
Clear answers.

Does every upgrade require a complete replacement?

The appropriate approach depends on equipment condition, available components and the changes required. A review can establish whether recovery, a partial upgrade or replacement is the practical option.

Can temporary power support the site during the work?

Temporary generation can be assessed as part of shutdown planning. It requires a defined load list, suitable connections, space and an agreed changeover arrangement; it should not be assumed to cover every circuit.

How is the installation schedule established?

The schedule depends on equipment availability, installation access, connection changes and the approved shutdown window. Confirming the existing arrangement early helps establish a workable programme.
